Chris Harris on Cars is DRIVES’s weekly car review on Youtube. This week witnesses the channel road testing the new 2013 Mercedes-Benz G63 AMG in the Swabian Hills of Southern Germany. A timeless classic, the Mercedes-Benz Geländewagen, or G-Wagen, has been sold to civilian buyers since 1979, although its AMG version debuted only 20 years later.

The rugged SUV has now been fitted with a new 5.5-litre supercharged V8 biturbo engine to produce a jaw-dropping 544 bhp and 560 pound-feet of torque, notably 44 bhp and 44 pound-feet over the G55. Combined with the AMG Speedshift Plus seven-speed automatic transmission, this impressive utility monster shoots from 0 to 62mph in just 5.4 seconds to achieve a top speed of 131 mph.
